Basingstoke Canal Angling Association

Recognition Of Service Awards

At the 17th Annual General Meeting of the Basingstoke Canal Angling Association, on 18th October 2007, three enormously respected gentlemen were presented with a Recognition Of Service Award.

The BCAA Chairman, Mr. Graham Smith, presented each person with a framed print showing a canal scene (from local artist Terry Harrison), and a commemorative plaque bearing a commendation from the BCAA.

Each of them was also confirmed as a 'Life-Member' of the BCAA.

Mr. Andre Grandjean

Andre was the BCAA Match Secretary from its inception in 1991, through to March 2007, and prior to that Andre was the Secretary of the Hampshire Basingstoke Canal Angling Association for fifteen years (one of the two associations (along with the Surrey Association) which merged in 1991 to form the BCAA).

Andre was (and continues to be) an official of a number of other angling associations, including the National Federation Of Anglers.

Andre organised and managed literally thousands of matches on behalf of the BCAA, including five NFA National matches.

Alongside all of this, Andre Grandjean and Dave Wright often took on the responsibilities of other positions within the BCAA Executive Committee, during periods when such positions were vacant.

Mr. Dave Wright

Dave Wright has been ( and continues to be) the BCAA Treasurer since its inception in 1991.

Throughout the years, Dave has maintained detailed, thorough, and efficient accounts for the association, and has ensured that the BCAA has benefited from a relatively comfortable level of financial stability (no mean achievement for a small angling association, managing 32 miles of canal)

Dave Wright has also periodically taken on many of the responsibilities of other positions within the BCAA Executive Committee, covering vacant positions whenever necessary.

Mr. Peter Emery

Peter Emery was the BCAA Chairman from 2000 through to the end of 2006.

Peter was instrumental in developing and formalising the long-term aims for the BCAA (documented within the Five Year Plan’ ), and in negotiating the ten-year lease from the BCA during 2005 and 2006.
