Member Paul Blundell has sent in some
piccies of a Crucian Carp he caught at Great Bottom Flash.
Weighing in at 2lb and 1 ounce, its not
a bad size!
(But nowhere near the 4lb 8 ounce similar
Crucian caught by Tony Hetherington back in 2008).
There seems to be quite a few of these
“Crucians” at Great Bottom Flash.
Unfortunately, we suspect they are more
of a hybrid than a true Crucian.
The lateral line of spots which is
indicative of a true Crucian are not present on these fish.
(Although the pictures are quite dark,
and its difficult to see clearly).
They should have a convex
(outward-curving) dorsal fin, and no barbules.
They are very close, but no cigars.
We have put a picture of a true Crucian
to the right of Paul’s fish, below.
We shall refer to them now as
“BCAA Not Quite Right But Close Enough
To Go On The Website Crucian Carp”
And Paul Blundell is topping this year’s
leader board.
