Basingstoke Canal Specimen Records

To be honest our records for the biggest fish and best catches etc. are pretty poor mainly because feedback from the membership has been pretty poor.

We want to change that now – and in these days with almost every mobile phone doubling-up as a camera, with simple digital downloads and so on, there is no reason for not sending in your pictures and your claims as record-breakers.

Details of the qualifying weights for each species are contained on our Rule and Regulations page.

If you are aware of any reputable fish captures then please email the BCAA Secretary or by post.

We may not be able to accept these as official records but at least we can give them a mention.

Most of the current records are based around fish captures during matches as detailed records from our matches have been maintained for a number of years.

SPECIMEN FISH RECORDS:

Biggest Bream:

8lbs 4oz 0dms caught by Carl Eland on the Lewis Harris Memorial Charity Match on 24th October 2001 from above Barley Mow.

Biggest Carp:

BCAA Bailiff, Bob Vince from Basingstoke landed a 29lbs 12oz carp from below Broad Oak Bridge on 1st September 2001. What is amazing is that Bob caught the carp on a 'POLE', size 14 hook to 6.6lb line with No. 14 elastic. It took Bob 55 minutes to land the beast.

Biggest Tench:

Biggest Perch:

Open For Claims.

BCAA Secretary John Campbell caught a 3lb 7oz perch from the Claycart stretch in January 2008.  The fish was caught ‘on the drop’ using a single lobworm on a size 10 hook.  Sadly, John had no witnesses and cannot work out how to download the photo from his mobile phone camera!

Could be one of those fishermans tales!

There are lots of big perch in the canal these days, possibly because they have been devouring the crayfish (thankfully not in such large numbers as some years ago).

Biggest Roach:
